Trenčianske Teplice is a spa town in western Slovakia. In the forest overlooking the city lies the swimming hole Zelená Žaba (meaning "green frog").

Slovakia's famous architecture "Zelená Žaba"
Zelená Žaba is located in what is now Slovakia, not the Czech Republic. It was born in the 1930s as a plan to create a new place of relaxation above the town, taking advantage of the south-facing slope of the hot spring town.
The facility is located high in the forest and has a structure that pumps hot spring water from the valley floor. The main pool is 33.3 meters x 12 meters. The design, which incorporates the surrounding nature without separating the architecture from the topography, has been highly praised.
Functionalist architecture born in 1937
It was designed by Bohuslav Fuchs, a Czech architect based in Brno. Planned from 1935 to 1937 and constructed from 1936 to 1937. It opened on May 16, 1937.
White walls, thin columns, continuous balconies, and arching stairs. While clearly assembling the elements necessary for the purpose, the colors of red and light blue give a light expression to the functionalist architecture.
A place where nature and architecture come together
Fuchs developed his architecture along the terrain, rather than excluding forests and slopes to place buildings. The curves of spiral staircases and columns overlap the horizontal lines of roofs and terraces.
Trees and rock surfaces loom just behind the building, and the appearance of sunlight and greenery changes as you move. The great appeal of this place is that even though it is a man-made structure, it retains the feeling of spending time in the forest.
Closed in 2015 to reopen in 2015
Zelená Žaba went through a period of closure and disrepair for 15 years starting around 2000. It was later renovated to retain its architectural features and reopened on August 1, 2015. Today, it is still used as a facility with a pool, wellness center, and restaurant.
