THE ZELENÁ ŽABA GREEN FROG SWIMMING POOL

THE ZELENÁ ŽABA
(GREEN FROG) SWIMMING POOL
The Zelená žaba swimming pool in Trenčianske
Teplice, built in the functionalist style, is unique not only for its inter-war architecture but also for its history, which dates back to the second half of the 1930s. After the First World War, the area had been used as a location for the recuperation of wounded soldiers and it was at that time that the decision was taken to build a swimming pool in the woods. The building, standing on a hill above the spa town surrounded by mountains, is the work of the Brno architect Bohuslav Fuchs.
The main pool was carved by hand into the rock and today, because of its unique technical construction, the Green Frog is a protected and listed monument. The original idea was for people to use the pool as a respite from the city and the pool was deliberately located on a hill to ensure maximum sunshine. Unfortunately, the main pool collapsed in 2000 and the area was left to decay for 15 years. However, in 2015, reconstruction started, and in 2017, the
the swimming pool was reopened to the public.
